Stress, anxiety and depression are essentially the rule rather than exception in Australian and New Zealand adults. Self-reported symptoms, surveys and studies show that more often than not, we are feeling debilitating stress, anxiety and low mood. Similarly, use of psychotropic medications in Australia and New Zealand adults are at ever growing and record levels. But collectively, we still do not seem to be coping well.
Surveys also show that patients believe mood disorders are primarily due to a brain chemical imbalance. Research reveals this view reduces self-efficacy and prolongs recovery from mental health issues. In contrast to the biomedical model of a chemical imbalance, research has accumulated over the years suggesting a biopsychosocial approach to mental health issues can improve well-being, including in those who have not achieved adequate benefit from medication.
This seminar series will demonstrate how we can utilise herbal medicine, nutrition, framing, mindsets and other evidence-based strategies to empower patients and support their innate mood regulating mechanism, to achieve more resilient mental and neurological health. These strategies can be used concurrently in patients on medications and whilst they are still under physical and psychological stress. Additionally, this event will extend from affective disorders and explore natural management of complex neurological disorders. This event will help our patient’s mind and body rise and thrive in the modern world.
